Opened Milkweed Pods Are Attractive
Additions to
Dried Bouquets
| Milkweeds (Asclepias) grow on waste land, usually near water.
The leaves of the developing plants are fed on by Monarch caterpillars.
The seed pods are noticeable after senescence when the seeds have blown
away.
The pods are rough and slightly bristly on the outside and shiny on the inside, making an attractive addition to dried bouquets. They accept artificial coloring and are sought after for craft projects. Butterfly weed (A. tuberosa) available in the horticulture trade belongs in most butterfly gardens. |
